Aviva tokenises £22bn sterling fund share class on XRP Ledger

Aviva Investors has launched a tokenised share class of its £22 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger, adding an on-chain way for eligible investors to access its largest fund. The launch is the asset manager’s second tokenised fund offering. Aviva Investors’ announcement says the new class was introduced on 26 October with Ripple.

What does the tokenised share class change?

It represents fund holdings on a blockchain while the fund itself stays in its existing structure. Aviva calls this a “digital twin” model: the on-chain record gives investors a digital access layer, while the underlying fund remains off-chain.

The fund is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS money market fund, a regulated fund that invests in short-term debt. It targets daily liquidity and invests in high-grade, sterling-denominated short-term debt instruments, according to Aviva. The company says the tokenised class has the same investment objective, risk profile, liquidity characteristics and regulatory protections as the conventional fund.

How much has Aviva invested?

Aviva says it invested £50 million in the sterling share class. Across its sterling and US dollar tokenised share classes, the firm reports more than £86 million invested. Its US dollar class launched in July 2026.

The £22 billion figure is the size of the conventional Sterling Liquidity Fund, not the amount invested in the new tokenised class. The Block’s report also notes that the fund dates to 2002 and that BNY Mellon holds its assets.

Who can access the shares, and who supports them?

Aviva says the new class is available to eligible investors with digital wallets. Komainu provided digital asset custody support, and Licuido provided tokenisation infrastructure; BNY Mellon remains the fund’s custodian.

The launch puts a digital share record alongside a traditional fund structure, without changing the fund’s stated investment objective or risk profile. Aviva has not announced how much outside investment the new share class has received.
