Ripple and Privy are bringing embedded crypto wallets to the XRP Ledger, giving apps a way to handle XRP and stablecoin payments without asking users to manage a separate wallet. Privy announced the partnership on Oct. 13, saying developers can create wallets and sign transactions through its infrastructure.
What will Privy add to XRP Ledger apps?
Privy’s wallet tools will let developers create and manage XRP Ledger wallets inside their own products. Users can make payments with XRP, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and other assets on the network, while keeping the option to export their private keys or recovery phrase, according to Privy’s announcement.
That setup is called an embedded wallet: it works inside an app, so a customer need not open a separate crypto wallet to use it. Privy, which CoinDesk identifies as owned by Stripe, says the tools can also support server-based wallets for software agents.
How could AI agents use the wallets?
An agent could use a wallet to pay for online services, such as a request for data, without a person completing a checkout each time. The system can use x402, a payment standard for requests made over the web. Privy says it plans to add policy controls and gas sponsorship over time; gas is the fee paid to process a blockchain transaction.
The integration extends Ripple’s developer work on automated payments. CoinDesk reported that Ripple introduced an AI payment toolkit in June and expanded it in September to support a payment standard developed by Stripe and Tempo.
What does the 14 million figure measure?
The XRPL AI Hub, a tracker operated by payments infrastructure developer t54, showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants as of Oct. 14, CoinDesk reported. That is a transaction count, not a measure of the total value paid. The same dashboard recorded about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD in cumulative payments.
RippleX engineering head J. Ayo Akinyele separately said on X that the ledger had processed more than 13 million x402 agent payments, according to CoinDesk. These figures point to activity around automated payments, but do not show how many transactions came from users of the new Privy integration. New XRP Ledger accounts also need a 1 XRP reserve to activate, CoinDesk reported.
