Aviva Investors and Ripple have launched a tokenized share class of Aviva’s £22 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger, giving eligible investors a blockchain-based way to hold shares in the existing fund. Ripple’s launch announcement is dated October 26, 2026.
Aviva invested £50 million in the new share class, according to Ripple. That brings investment across its sterling and dollar tokenized share classes to more than £86 million. The £22 billion figure is the size of the whole sterling fund, not the amount represented by tokens.
What does the tokenized share class change?
The fund uses a “digital twin” model: investors’ holdings are represented on the blockchain, while the existing fund structure stays off-chain. Ripple says the fund’s underlying assets remain with its custodian, The Bank of New York Mellon.
The fund is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS money market fund, a regulated fund that invests in short-term debt. Ripple says it targets low-risk returns and daily liquidity through exposure to high-grade, sterling-denominated short-term debt. The new shares have the same investment objective, risk profile, liquidity features and regulatory protections as the conventional fund, the announcement says.
Who can access the shares?
The share class is available to eligible investors with digital wallets, according to Ripple. Komainu provided digital asset custody support, while Licuido supplied tokenization infrastructure. Ripple’s announcement does not give further detail on investor eligibility or the minimum investment.
The XRP Ledger is a public blockchain where token ownership can be recorded and transactions settled. In this case, the token represents a share in the fund; it does not mean the fund’s portfolio has moved onto the ledger. The Block’s report on the launch says investors need an eligible wallet and that the fund’s assets remain off-chain.
How does this fit Aviva’s tokenization plans?
This is Aviva’s second tokenized fund share class, following its US dollar liquidity fund launch in July 2026, Ripple says. Aviva first announced its partnership with Ripple in February to explore putting traditional fund structures on the XRP Ledger.
Aviva Investors CEO Mark Versey said the firm expects tokenized funds could improve efficiency and client outcomes. The companies have not announced a timeline for further launches.
